Ellington Infant School
Sports, P.E. and Swimming
At Ellington we aim to provide an inspiring curriculum that gives children the opportunity to exceed and excel in physically demanding activities. This helps them to become confident in a way which supports their health and fitness throughout their lives.
Each week children have a PE lesson following the Real PE scheme of work. This focuses on the development of agility, balance and coordination, healthy competition and cooperative learning through a unique and market leading approach to teaching and learning in PE. Children are then given the opportunity to apply these skills into real life situations. EG balance on one leg/ riding a scooter.
We provide a wide range of afterschool activities ranging from outdoor/ gardening club to football and dance. We aim to provide every child with an opportunity to find something that suits their physical ability.
All children attend swimming lessons once a week for a term. We aim for children to leave Ellington confident in the water with some children achieving swimming grades.Â
Every day each class gets out and walks, skips, runs the Daily Mile. This encourages 15 minutes of sustained activity a day.
We are part of the Thanet School Partnership which holds taster sessions and competitions throughout the year. This gives Ellington children the opportunity to gain confidence and the experience of winning and losing in safe friendly environments.
Specialist teaching organisations come into school and work with our children. This year we have Premier Sport, Bounce and a scooter company coming in.
Swimming
All of our children take part in swimming lessons at Ramsgate swimming pool. Each class has 6 sessions.
