Ellington Infant School

Attendance

A child’s time in school is very important as it impacts upon their learning, their friendships and their self-esteem and confidence.

Ellington Infant School is committed to the continuous raising of achievement of all our pupils. Regular attendance is critical if our pupils are to be successful and benefit from the opportunities presented to them. We expect pupils to attend regularly and punctually and we actively promote 100% attendance for all our pupils.

We have high expectations of regular, punctual attendance at our school. Good attendance is fundamental to a successful and fulfilling school experience. We use a variety of weekly, termly and annual awards to promote 100% attendance and good punctuality.

The Governing Body, Headteacher and Staff in partnership with Parents / Carers have a duty to promote full attendance at school. Staff at Ellington Infants must monitor the attendance of each individual pupil from a safeguarding perspective and it is the legal duty of Parents / Carers to ensure their child attends school daily. The school works closely with the Local Authority Education Welfare team who regularly monitor the children’s attendance.

If your child is not able to attend school we ask that you contact the school office by phone, email or via Parentmail by 9.15am.

Lateness – if a child arrives at school after 8.55am they will be marked as late, if they arrive after 9.10am the register will be marked as an unauthorised absence. Once a child reaches 10 unauthorised absences a penalty notice maybe applied for. This may result in a fine of up to £160 per parent.

Term Time Absence

Due to new government legislation the school can no longer authorise time off for family holidays/events. Parents choosing to take holiday in term time, resulting in your child being absent from school for more than 5 days within a term, could be subject to a penalty notice. This may result in a fine of up to £160 per parent.

Application forms for leave are available from the school office and need to be completed for any days off from school which are not illness related.

The Education Welfare Officer monitors any child’s attendance which falls below 95%.
